Pressure Washers For All Occasions
Pressure washers are powerful tools that connect to your standard garden hose to use high-pressure water to clean a variety of outdoor surfaces. They are perfect for jobs around the house and light-duty cleaning. Pressure washers are available with a variety of characteristics, such as power source, temperature, application, and PSI (pounds per square inch). They are terrific around the house simply by virtue of their ability to generate significantly more water pressure than a garden hose.
Pressure washers are very popular among homeowners, since even the least expensive electric models offer about 15 times the water pressure of a regular garden hose. Be aware that they are dangerous tools by any measure, and should be operated with due diligence especially following the safety instructions. Most pressure washers are equipped with safety features designed to reduce pressure buildup. They are available for all levels of use, from the weekend handy-person to heavy-duty commercial applications. Home use pressure washers offer the benefit of cleaning better with less effort and in less time.
If you want to wash large decks and clean siding, a gas powered 2500-PSI or better pressure washer offers more all day cleaning power than any electric pressure washer. Pounds Per Square Inch (psi) is the measurement of water pressure. The greater the psi, the better the cleaning efficiency. For typical home use a 1200 to 1350 psi model is perfect for cleaning lawn furniture or washing your car, a washer of this size should be more than adequate. The potential for serious injury should be considered with any device producing greater than 100 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure. Pressure washers intended for business use will have greater pressure (PSI), water flow (GPM) and horse power (HP). The combination of PSI and GPM is what really does the cleaning. Generally, all pressure washers 1,500 PSI or less use a push/pull type nozzle adjustment. For 2000 PSI units and above they use quick-couple nozzles that can be exchanged with each other depending on the application.
Some models include telescoping wands and gutter cleaners which make them a great way to clean gutters and downspouts. Perfect for the home, they are safe and capable of cleaning smaller surfaces, like patio furniture, grills, or cars on an irregular basis. The difference between hot and cold water models is that hot water pressure washers will remove large amounts of oil and grease more easily, therefore is best for heavy-duty jobs. Cold water pressure washers are better suited for light cleaning and basic jobs around the house.
If you want to wash large decks and clean siding, a gas powered 2500 or greater offers more cleaning power than any electric pressure washer. Be very careful though as pressure washers in this class can break up asphalt if aimed directly at it, due to high pressure water entering cracks and voids in the surface.
